She played a girl who was having an affair to David Strathairn, her high-school teacher. Roger Ebert said that Bruckner was able to handle the complex script confidently. She regularly practiced Hungarian in order to improve her language proficiency. Bruckner is a Hollywood Californian born daughter of an Hungarian father and a Russian mother. Her maternal grandparents were German. In Hungary Her parents were first came together and later immigrated into America in 1984 through an asylum settlement in Italy.
