Ruth Roman
Ruth Roman, born Norma Roman on December 22, 1922 – September 9th 1999 was an American actress. Her career began on the east coast as a stage actor before moving to Hollywood to explore a film career. Prior to her appearance in western Harmony Trail (1944), Roman was also featured as the main character of Jungle Queen (1945). This was her first credited role. The actress was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as New Star of the Year – actress for her performance in Champion (1949). She was under contract to Warner Bros. in the 1950s. She starred in several films, including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951). Roman began appearing in guest roles on television series in the mid-1950s. Roman also made films in Spain, Italy, and England. She was also a passenger aboard the SS Andrea Doria when it was involved in a collision with another ship and sank in 1956. In 1959, she received the Sarah Siddons Award for her performance in the play Two for the Seesaw. She was a television star who was awarded a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood for her many TV appearances.Norma Roman was born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline (nee Gold), and Abraham "Anthony” Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. When a fortune teller advised her mother that "Norma was lucky,"" she was changed to Ruth. Her mother was a dancer, and her father was a barker in a carnival sideshow that they owned in Revere Beach, Massachusetts. Ann and Eve were her older sisters.
