Ruth Roman

 Ruth Roman (born Norma Roman; December 22, 1922 - September 9, 1999)was an American actress of stage, film and television.After acting in stage and screen roles in the east coast, Roman relocated to Hollywood to pursue a career in films. Before being cast in the western Harmony Trail (1944), Roman was also cast as the title character of Jungle Queen (1945), the first time she was credited with a role. The actress was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as New Star of the Year – Actress for her part in Champion (1949). In the early 1950s she was signed with Warner Bros., where she appeared in a range of films, including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller Strangers on a Train (1951).In the mid-1950s, after leaving Warner Bros., Roman continued to appear in films as well as take on part-time roles in television shows. She also worked abroad and made films in England, Italy, and Spain. In 1956, she was an onboard passenger of the SS Andrea Doria that collided with another vessel and sank. She was given the Sarah Siddons Award in 1959 for her role in the play Two for the Seesaw. The numerous appearances on television earned her a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. FameNorma Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, to Lithuanian Jewish parents, Mary Pauline (nee Gold) and Abraham "Anthony" Roman. She was given the name "Ruth" after a fortune teller told her mother that "Norma" was a bad name. Her mother was a professional dancer and her father was a barker at the carnival sideshow they ran in Revere Beach. She had two older sisters: Ann and Eve.
